Steam generator tubes may have complex support and tube-sheet regions. Array-based eddy current systems can provide additional circumferential information in compatible designs, while bobbin and rotating probes remain important complementary tools. Tube-to-tube-sheet transitions, support regions and cracking mechanisms need a defined qualification approach; this page describes industry applications, not an IAIS nuclear qualification.
Different techniques may be complementary. The inspection procedure must demonstrate response to the target indication under the actual material and geometry conditions.
